TOOL ROOM TIP — The Sanding Tools

These sanding 'tools' were demonstrated to me by John Welsford. You take a section of Tungsten Carbide Chip commercial grade flexible abrasive cloth and using Ados or other contact cement glue it onto the shape of your choice.

Here I have made a block that is curved with one edge at 90 degrees to the flat face and the other is at 75 degrees. This is my tool for cleaning up the stringers. Who needs power tools? When it clogs up just clean it with a wire brush

John has two 'tools' here. One is a piece of broom handle with the cloth glued to it. I have one now and it is quite long so I can keep a good eye on what I am doing. The other 'tool' is made with a piece of 2x1.I wish I had known about this toolroom trick earlier

p.s. you will have to use some initiative to find this cloth. It will normally be sourced from a wood working factory as offcuts or from damaged belts.
