DRASCOMBE DESIGNS IN NEW ZEALAND

WBNZ is interested in hearing from anyone who has a Drascombe in New Zealand.
There are many designs in this stable and many of them very suitable for our conditions.

Honnor Marine’s attempt at a heavier cruiser. 21’ 6" in length  (straight transom, mizzen stepped thereon, thus practically ‘longer’  than a Coaster), it is 7’ 3" in the beam, fuller in section & weighs in at  2,000 lbs. It has a long keel with bilge plates & a fixed draft of 2’ 0". It  carries 210 SqFt of tan sail, is a powerful sailer that handles delightfully. It was made in either inboard diesel or  outboard (in well) versions. Many feel that the inboard motor  intrusion into the otherwise spacious and user-friendly cabin is  unacceptable.
The Drifter is only a trailer-sailer for the bold & the brave who drive 4x4's & eat three Shredded Wheat for breakfast. Having said that, there are a number of keen Drascombe Association Rallyists who, wanting a larger boat but not wishing to leave the Association, do just that. (The picture is of Flounder, now in NZ) OK hands up, where it it?
We have heard about the Drascombe experience down here. Grant Stone's father apparently built one and had to take the pledge before the plans arrived. There also had to be a promise that the plans would not be copied and that they would be returned to the UK when the boat was completed.
