Warkworth is a really beautiful village an hour and a bit drive north of Auckland, New Zealand.
Built on what is effectively the head of a river draining into the Mahurangi Harbour, home of New Zealand's vintage boat meet, you can take quite large vessels up to the town on the tide. The journey takes about an hour.
Rique popped up during our survey asking why we had no information about catamarans or trimarans.
The answer was pretty simple really, we didn't actually know anybody who had one. We fired off an email to the Wharram people about 3 weeks ago but have yet to receive a reply.
Never mind though because Rique has provided us with photographs of his new boat, just recently launched.
He honestly claims it to be a four to five metre boat (it looks OK from that distance).
What makes this boat a bit more special is that Rique has decided to learn the hard way and is adapting and learning by doing things for himself.
This is his latest email along with some pictures taken on launching day.
I have finally got some pictures of my boat. I'm having some teething problems with the balance of it, but the sailboard sail is only temporary until I get the crab-claw sail made. I have some Tyvec, the tape, and some bamboo for the spars. It shouldn't be too long, depending on family commitments. I think part of my handling problems may be that my paddle was too small, but I am busy at the moment whittling a new one over twice the size.
Thanks, go well,
Rique
