WAIATA

A waiata is a Maori song of welcome, or thanks traditionally sung (and replied to with a waiata) whenever groups meet. Original owners Mike and Judy from Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand were very helpful to me when I was building my own Navigator.

Waiata has changed hands and will be found in Christchurch from now on..........

Waiata under 'full sail' on the Waitemata Harbour.
The genniker is the owners pride and joy and enables Waiata to cover a lot of ground.
Mike and Judy used this on their Christmas card last Christmas. They are really proud of their Navigator and have made some long and memorable trips around the Hauraki Gulf.
She was built to order by Matthew Barrie and finished off and fitted out by Mike and Judy.
You can just see the flat part on the boomkin to which the 2hp outboard is fitted in cruising state. Her cockpit coamings come down to the seat tops providing more storage space. Not a bad idea but I need that space for a sculling oar or yuloh storage.

Waiata on the ramp sorting out the 'string'. The original photograph was in pretty bad condition with creases etc. and the mainsail luff has come about a bit funny in the rebuild.
